Project Description

The MacLab is interested in understanding well-being in singlehood. Singlehood is on the rise internationally, but research on single people is only a few years old so there’s lots to learn. In the lab, we’ve done research showing that some types of people are happier being single than others – for example, women, older people, more secure people, more sexually satisfied people, and queer people are more likely to be happy singles. We’ve also looked at who is more likely to be single including people who are more introverted and people with lower incomes. Overall, we study a broad range of topics and think about their links to singlehood.

Mentorship Statement

I have participated in SROP the past three summers and really appreciate the program’s focus on giving students opportunities to learn and grow. Typically, an SROP student in my lab participates in lab meetings, meets with me once a week, and works with a graduate student to develop and statistically test an idea from our pool of existing data. We hope you exit the program with more statistical skill and one lab’s idea of how to think about and execute resarch.
