Project Description
Why are some people ignored and overlooked based on their group memberships and identities – that is, why are they socially invisible? How does it feel to be socially invisible? When and how do people try to manage this? This summer, our lab will be researching questions like these. We will also examine questions about when different minority groups see commonality vs. when they have conflict, what people mean when they say their group is represented or not, and whether identifying as LGBTQ+ is considered more or less common in different places around the world._x000D_

You will get to work closely on a project on one of these topics, or a related topic, depending on your interests in the current projects going on in the lab. The specific research experiences you get will depend a bit on the project, but they may include: Helping to develop study materials, collecting data from participants in the field, online, or in the lab, working with data through coding, data cleaning, or data analysis, and communicating about your project’s methods and findings to lab members and in a poster presentation to the SROP community.
Does this project require the SROP Student to be in-person or remote? Either one
Mentorship Statement
Our lab highly values good mentorship and we are excited to work with an SROP student this summer! You will work closely with a graduate student on one of their projects. We will match you with a graduate student based on your interests, and you will meet regularly with them throughout the 8 weeks. We’ll aim to provide you hands-on experience with different aspects of the research process in a supportive environment, and are looking forward to welcoming you to the lab!
